GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
January 10, 2010
CALL TO ORDER
The January meeting was held at Dubsdred Country Club in Orlando. Chairman Jay Snyder called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Jay reminded everyone of the Anti-Trust Compliance Policy being in effect. Copies of the policy were available at the sign in table and are always available on the website. Reading of the policy was waived by a motion put forth by Mike Brown with the second by Andrew Ryan. Motion was passed by vote. 21 members were in attendance.
SECRETARY’S REPORT
Secretary Terri Brown emailed the minutes of the November 2009 meeting. The minutes of the November 18, 2009 meeting were distributed on the tables tonight. Pat Walker made a motion to approve the minutes with a 2nd from Andrew Ryan. Motion was passed by vote.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Andrew Ryan gave the Treasurer’s Report. He reminded everyone that dues for 2010 need to be paid. Terri will email the 2010 Dues Invoice with the minutes. There is $10,940.22 in both accounts. Our CD is at approx. $21,600.00 and will renew in the next two (2) months. Andrew will check rates prior to renewal. Mike Brown made a motion to accept treasurer’s report with a second by Mary Jane Mueller. Motion was passed by vote.
PROMASONRY COMMITTEE
Bill Parsons spoke about the December meeting. There is a need for calls to be made to follow up on jobs in the planning stages. Next meeting is February 9, 2010 at FCMPA 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. All are invited.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
Frank Cox reported that two (2) new members have joined us. Please welcome Hommes Masonry and Just Concrete. Remember growing our membership is everyone’s job. Talk to your contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers everywhere you go. We need to schedule a marketing report date by Pat McLaughlin in May, June or July.
EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Structural Masonry Design Seminar scheduled for February 10, 2010 in Pensacola.
APPRENTICEHIP REPORT
Mary Jane Mueller reported AMS in town. They picked up some new apprentices to help on their project. On Fridays she has a mason tending class at the Orange County Corrections, she would like some contractor volunteers to give one (1) hour talks.
AWARDS REPORT
New Form for submissions will be released. Get your pictures and data together. Need plenty of projects submitted. Submission will be done online. Projects can go back two (2) years. CO by 12-31-09. There is an Award Teleconference on Friday January 22 that Mike Brown needs to contact Joe Lestino for participation instructions which will bring us more information.
Chris Bettinger has been working with AIA and reached an agreement to two (2) awards for Innovative Designs Using Masonry – one (1) for commercial and one (1) for residential – using an AIA Architect. There will be two winners in each category – one for Honor and one for Merit. There will be half hour presentations to each AIA Chapter Meeting. At the State Convention one (1) hour presentations will be given. Four ( 4) professional videos will be made of winning projects which we at MAF will have use of. MAF will be sponsoring their convention for a $7,500.00 donation. Thank you Chris for all of your efforts with the AIA group.

GOLF TOURNAMENT REPORT
Tournament scheduled for April 21, 2010 at Forest Lakes. Larry and Frank have negotiated to keep pricing the same for the golf and food. Sign up forms will be emailed with meeting notes and posted on our blog. Great job guys……….Thank you.
FASTEST TROWEL REPORT
Fastest Trowel is tentatively scheduled for June. Discussion ensued regarding joining up with the Treasure Coast Chapter. Jay will draft a letter to poll for interest in the association in regarding our options.
STATE TRUSTEE REPORT
No meeting yet so nothing new to report
OLD BUSINESS
Specifications from Michigan have been given to Bill Parsons by Jay. New Format has not yet been released. We need to write our own specifications.
NEW BUSINESS
Check out our blog on the website at www.floridamasonry.com Meeting notes and announcements will be posted there regularly. Terri and John Kennedy will be helping to update Blog.
Elections for the 2011-2012 Chapter Board will be taking place in November. Start thinking about what you would like to do to help grow the association. We need to do nominations at the October meeting.
Jay talked about an Article called The Perfect Wall in the Masonry Edge Magazine. It talks about a 500 year wall. Jay feels it is a great article and he will be emailing it out to all. Please take time to read it.
We talked about the need to monthly speakers to help with meeting attendance. Pat Walker volunteered to line up speakers for us.
Pat Walker spoke to us about NAWIC’s 2010 Block Kids Event. A competition for elementary school children, grades 1-6, at Tri-City Electric on February 20, 2010. Kids are given legos, aluminum foil and string to create a building project. The winners advance to Regionals, then Nationals. The National winner goes to the NOVA Awards. PROGRAM
None given.
50/50 winner was Pat Walker for 39.50.
Motion made to adjourn by Terri Brown with second from Andrew Ryan. Motion passed by vote. Our meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
